Hydrological Society
The Hungarian Hydrological Society at first was functioning within the Hungarian Geological Association as a part of the federation of Technical and Scientific Societies, and it became an individual society in 1949.
The Regional Society in Baranya held its first meeting on 20-21 September 1952. On 29 November 49 professionals from the region and 23 from Pécs gathered and elected the board of directors which has changed a few times, but its relationship with our Directorate is still unbroken. The current chairman is József Schubert, and they function with the help of Ms. Sághniné Ildikó Juhász secretary, the monetary background is supported by the Hydrologists for Baranya Foundation, chaired by Béla György.
The role of the board of directors has always been important; usually the chairman and the secretary are elected from the members. This ensures the sustainable development of the Society, working in cooperation with the Inspectorate,the Water Works and with the Departments of the Budapest National Organization.
The main tasks of Baranya County Regional Society of the Hungarian Hydrological Society is to ensure the development of hydrologists, and provide guidance regarding complex problems arising in the county. In the active period, it holds lectures, keeps contact with foreign professionals and organizes study-trips, the topics of which are selected in the annual plans.
