Levee district project at Old, dyke improvement on the left side
National Flood-Protection Developments KEOP 2.1.1. Scheme
The project is funded jointly by the European Union and the Cohesion Fund.
Introduction of the project:
The project involves seven villages in the Siklós area: Alsószentmárton, Old, Beremend, Egyházasharaszti, Kásád, Kistapolca and Matty. Beyond the danger of flood, there are the additional risks of drainage water in rainy periods, and the odds of draught in dry periods. The dyke to be built will result in an organized environment and will lower the danger of flooding, thus improving the living standards of local inhabitants.
The aim of the project:
From the country border up to the dyke watchman station at Gyűrűspuszta lies the flood-preventing dyke which needs to be built higher in order to function properly and as it is stated by law, to the reference flood level value of 120 centimeters, instead of the current 60 centimeters. This is why the dyke (mentioned in 10/1997. (VII. 17.) KHVM decree appendix 1.) protecting the left side of the detached levee district in Old (from the Drávaszabolcs levee) of Dráva, needs to be developed on a section of 5,1 kilometers in length. The preparations for the project started in 2007, and it’s completion is due about September, 2010.
The 850 million Forint subsidy won in the second round of the application will help realize the project. The preparations have come to an end, so on the river sections with ready technical designs the earthworks have started this spring, after public procurement had ben completed. The development of a safer dyke system will take about one and a half year. T
he investment can be realized with the help of “Új Magyarország” Development Scheme and the Environment- and Energy Operative Program.
