Improving water damage prevention on watercourses ’Karasica’ and ’Vasas-belvárdi’

Developments for the protection of surface water in water protection zones with regional importance

Overview of the project:

The development implemented within the framework of the project is fundamentally based on two concepts. The prime objective is to enhance the flood safety of the inland areas affected and at the same time to protect human life and assets. Whilst in the outskirts, besides maintaining an adequate level of flood security, the other main aim is the compliance with the guidelines of the Water Framework Directive.

Planned technical interventions in order to improve water damage prevention on watercourse ‘Karasica’

- River basin management in the length of 8,940 metres, sectional bed protection, also planting indigenous flora sporadically and develop close-to-nature basin sections

- Installing hydraulic structures in the riverbed: 2 pieces of river bed stabilizer structures and 20 pieces of passing-over stuctures at the influx of side ditches

- Development of monitoring: installing two water gauges (at Kátoly and Szederkény) in compliance with the riverbasin reconstruction

Planned technical interventions in order to improve water damage prevention on watercourse ‘Vasas-belvárdi’:

- River basin management in the length of 10,140 metres, sectional bed protection, also planting indigenous flora sporadically and develop close-to-nature basin sections

- Installing hydraulic structures in the riverbed: 10 pieces of river bed stabilizer structures and 19 pieces of passing-over structures at the influx of side ditches

- Development of monitoring: installing a water gauge at Belvárdgyula

Closing date of project implementation: October 2012

Total cost of the project: 469.5 million HUF

The investment is implemented via the ‘Dél-dunántúli Operatív Program’ within the framework of ‘Új Széchényi Terv’.
