A short summary of the project:
The aim of the project, in line with Decree 221/2004. (VII.21.) and 2000/60/EK Water Framework Directive is to produce Watershed Management Plans (WMP). The national WMP regarding the whole of Hungary is to be made until 22nd December 2009.
A strategic goal is the best possible protection of surface and underground waters. The making of WM plans is an operative step towards the realization of the Water Framework Directive. WMP is a common European tool which helps realize the goals of the Water Framework Directive on a local scale.
An operative goal is to produce 1 national watershed management plan, 4 sub-watershed management plans (for Danube, Tisza, Drava, Balaton), the WMP for 42 planning subunits, and also, the strategic environmental revision of the national WMP. Further opaerative goals are to perform social discussions in accordance with the Water Framework directive and national regulations, and to supply information and negotiate at an international scale.

Target Groups:
The target audience of the project is first and foremost the citizens of Hungary and their natural environment. Another target group is made up by citizens associated, most importantly, with the Danube. Organizations utilizing water are also involved in the project (industrial, agricultural organizations), since WMP actions affect their lives and operations.
Another important target group includes people involved in the making of watershed management plans and decisions. These are the ministries and their regional offices, like the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Water who is responsible for implementing WMP, and also other Environmental and Water Directorates.
Also involved are organizations assigned with professional or public administration work, contributing to the project with added value.
